Choir

The children’s choir of the Music School of Thessaloniki was founded in 1992 and since September 1996 it has been directed by Angeliki Krisila. The choir consists of 50 members and its repertoire includes works of all eras.

The aim of the choir is to bring the children in direct contact with choral practice and at the same time to enrich their musical knowledge through the works of the composers of choral music.

The choir has participated in concerts, choral festivals, competitions and has represented Greece in European programmes and international meetings. It has taken part in the theatrical performances “Frogs” by Aristophanes, “Troades” by Euripides (productions of the Thessaloniki Music School) and in the operas “Tosca”, “La Bohéme” by G.Puccini and “Hänsel und Gretel” by Engelbert Humperdinck (production of the Thessaloniki Opera of the National Theatre of Northern Greece).

It was a great honor for the choir to be invited by the Ministry of Education to open the opening ceremony of the European Year of Languages 2001 in honor of the former President of the Republic, Mr. Stefanopoulos. The choir’s participation in the “3rd Word Summit on Media for children” at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and in the Christmas concert in honor of the Palestinian Homogeneity, organized by the Ministry of Culture, was significant.

In December 2004, at the invitation of the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace, the choir represented our country in Paris during the Greek participation in Thessaloniki for the 2008 EXPO. It also collaborated with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra in the work “Olvios Tafos” by Michalis Adamis in the first performance.

In April 2010 it gave a concert at Stanislas College in Delft, the Netherlands and in February 2015 at the Zografeion Lyceum in Istanbul…

In December 2016, it gave a Christmas concert in Rotonda, as part of the “Christmas Together” Festival of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The choir ensemble took part in the Children’s Choir Festivals organized by the Thessaloniki Concert Hall under the direction of Gregory Charles, Basilio Astulez, Antonis Kontogeorgiou, Yoshihisa Matthias Kinoshita and Tigran Hekekyan, Sanna Valvanne, Barbara Hendrics, Ceren Oran, Fred Sjoberg (2011-2019) and collaborated with the vocal groups Mezzotono – Italy and Foolmoon – Hungary (2023).

The choir has collaborated with various artists such as: Anthi Tatsiouli, Petros Gaitanos, Anastasia Moutsatsou, Nikos Portokaloglou etc.

In November 2022, following an invitation by the Cultural Centre of the Region of Central Macedonia, it participated in the concert “In formal attire (Me episimo endyma) – A tribute to Nikos Portokaloglou”, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall and collaborated with the Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra – MΟΥSA. The concert was broadcasted on ERT3, ERTFLIX, YOU TUBE etc.

In 1997, 1999 and 2000 the choir won first prizes at the Panhellenic Student Games of the Ministry of Education. In addition, it won silver medals at the 2nd International Competition of Rhodes (1999), the 6th International Competition of Athens (2000) and the 7th International Competition of Athens “Choir Olympics” (2004) organized by the Athenian Polyphony. In 2009 she participated in the eTwinning project, which won 1st prize in the National eTwinning Competition 2009.
