Foundation
The Music School of Thessaloniki (M.S.Th.) was founded in June 1992. It was initially housed in a few rooms in the Papafio Foundation and in the school year 1992-1993 it operated with two sections in the first grade of high school after a selection of 46 students and a few seconded and hourly teachers.
1994
Staffing
The M.S.Th. was staffed with permanent teaching staff of general education and music courses.
1995
Relocation to the school Vassiliadis
The school is moved to the Vassiliadis Educational Centre in Thermi after the efforts of the school’s bodies together with the Prefecture of Thessaloniki.
1997
Timetable of music lessons
A full timetable is implemented in most music lessons.
1999
New building in Pylaia
The M.S.Th. moves to the new premises in Pylaia, where it is located until today. The student community is gradually growing.
2003
Website
Launch of the school’s website on the initiative of Anastasia Penoglou, teacher of computer science. Pupils of the Computer Science ensemble “e-event: The school website” worked tirelessly to gather the necessary material from programs and event recordings as well as from the school’s computer files.
2006
New theater
The Events Auditorium was completely reconstructed, a project with a budget of 400,000 euros.
2011
Painting of the building
The school building was given a modern look with bright colours inside and outside.
2011
New website
A group of teachers of the M.S.Th. undertook to organize the material of the old website and present it in a new format designed and developed by the M.S.Th. graduate Konstantinos Georgiadis Filikas.
2019
New website
In 2019 the design and development of the new website was started by music theory teacher Vasilios Barlayannis. The material of the old website was transferred in its entirety to a new environment and sorted into new categories and tags. The end user enjoys a modern website, fast, readable on mobile devices and with reduced data consumption. Going live on 1/1/2020.
2020
Covid-19 era
On 10 March 2020, school closures were announced due to the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The Thessaloniki Music School, on that day, immediately launched its Moodle asynchronous e-learning platform. Administrators: Vassilios Barlayannis and Elissavet Politidou.
2021
Reinforcement of network infrastructure
In July 2021, the network infrastructure of the Thessaloniki Music School was upgraded in the offices and most of the classrooms with two new 50Mbps lines.
2023
Interactive whiteboards
In October 2023, 15 interactive whiteboards were installed by decision of the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports.
