Library “Konstantina Kiatipi”

18 March 2014

The Library “Konstantina Kiatypi” of M.S.Th. was established on the initiative of the then deputy headmistress of the school Konstantina Kiatypi and began to operate in the year 2000 in the new premises of the school in Pylaia, after its relocation from the Vassiliadis Educational Buildings.

The Library was gradually organized and enriched over the years with a significant number of books, CDs and DVDs. Today it has 2,300 book titles such as physics, mathematics, art, history, music, foreign and Greek literature. It also has sheet music, encyclopedias, essays, studies and about 400 CDs and DVDs of classical and Greek music.

The acquisition of the large number of books and audio-visual material is largely due to the donations of individuals. Ministry of Education and Religions, Observer Publications, Ianos Bookshop, Society for Macedonian Studies, Bank of Credit, University Publications, French Institute, Parliament, etc. Very important, however, is the contribution of books by the teaching staff of the Thessaloniki Music School, the students and the Parents and Guardians Association of Thessaloniki Music School.

In February 2011, the entire archive (music books and CDs) of the ever-deceased musicologist Constantina Papastamatiou was donated to the Library “Konstantina Kiatypi” following a donation made by her sister Nancy Papanastasiou to our school.

The Library was enriched with donations of books, brochures and DVDs from the museums visited by the M.S.Th. Museum Education team during the 2011-2012 year.

The Library now serves both as a reading room for the school’s students and as a lending library, and has a small collection of instruments.

Since mid-March 2014, a six-computer island has been operating in the library, serving the school’s students and teachers on a daily basis.

The computers were donated by the Department of English Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, on the initiative of the President of the Parents’ and Guardians’ Association of our school, Mrs. Paschalina Grootka.

The computers operate as workstations of the LTSP computer network installed in the Computer Science laboratory and as stand-alone computers (five with Linux Debian and one with Windows XP).

The teachers in charge of the Library are the teachers: Anastasia Arzoglou, Lefkothea Efremidou, Gerasimoula Papandrikou.
