Symphonic Orchestra

16 September 2018

The orchestra is a large instrumental ensemble, which includes all instrumental groups (strings, winds and percussion). Students learn to play collectively together with instruments of different timbres and tones and are introduced to works from the mainly classical repertoire from the baroque, classical and contemporary eras.

The ensemble of the Orchestra was created since the beginning of the Music School of Thessaloniki, gave many concerts, participated in festivals in Greece and abroad, and won awards and praise at the Panhellenic Artistic Student Games of the Ministry of Education. During the three years 1997-1999, it collaborated with the theatre ensemble of the M.S.Th. and they jointly produced the plays “Frogs” by Aristofanis, “Fiore tou Levante” by G. Xenopoulos and “Troades” by Euripides.

The contribution of the non-resident teachers at our school, Pantelis Terezakis and Kostis Papazoglou, who have served as directors of the orchestra in the past, was significant. The 2011-2012 marked a new beginning for this ensemble and all the students who attended participated in it for the first time. The project was undertaken by the teachers of our school: Myridou Maria (teaching strings), Karassavidis Nikos and Pavlidou Gesthmani (teaching wind instruments) and Kentrotis Kostas (teaching, repertoire selection, orchestration and musical direction).

In 2012-2013 the Symphony (Orchestra) was taken over by the teachers of our school: Mitritzaki Maria (string teaching), Karassavidis Nikos and Pavlidou Gesthmani (wind teaching), Giarouzidis Antonis (percussion teaching) and Kentrotis Kostas (teaching, repertoire selection, orchestration and musical direction).

In 2013-2014 the Orchestra has been taken over by the teachers of our school: Kostas Kentrotis (teaching, repertoire selection, orchestration and musical direction) and Eugenios Kandylidis, Gesthemani Pavlidou, Evangelia Simou.

Since 2014-2015 the orchestra is conducted by Stergios Moschogiannis and the teachers collaborate: Eugenios Kandylidis, Gethsemani Pavlidou, Ioanna Tasioula, Katerina Andrianaki.
