The Renaissance and Baroque Music Ensemble is oriented towards the teaching and performance of music from the 15th to the mid-17th century. It began its journey into the difficult for Greek music education paths of “Early Music” in the school year 2007-2008 in the framework of a cultural programme approved by the Ministry of Education entitled “Baroque Music”.
The aim of this programme is to familiarize students with the music of the Renaissance and the Baroque through its rich repertoire and the instruments of the period such as the harpsichord, as well as to teach and interpret it according to historical and modern musicological approaches in combination with the knowledge of the interpretative and technical possibilities of the instruments of the period. The ensemble collaborates regularly with the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki within the framework of the course “Palaeography of European Music” and has developed musical activities inside and outside our school.
