16 September 2018

The Ensemble of Modern Greek Music was founded at the Music School of Thessaloniki in the autumn of 2007 in the context of the music ensemble course. Its purpose is to bring its students in contact with Greek music, with important lyricists and poets. The students enrich their repertoire with Greek songs by composers such as M. Theodorakis, N. Xylouris, G. G. Markopoulos etc.

The ensemble participated in many concerts and festivals in Greece (Athens, Argos), in the opening concert “Dimitria in Schools” (September 2010), in the commemoration of the heroes of the Cypriot struggle 1955-1959 (April 2011), but also abroad, such as at Stanislas College in Delft, the Netherlands.

The instruments that usually accompany the ensemble are: santouri, flute, percussion, guitar, electric bass, electric bass, accordion, mandolin, bouzouki, piano, ney, clarinet and cello. In 2009 he won the first prize at the Panhellenic Student Artistic Competitions of the Ministry of Education.
