Visit of an IB Organization Consultant to the Thessaloniki Music School as Part of the Certification Process

10 November 2025

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, the Thessaloniki Music School (T.M.S.) welcomed the official Consultant of the International Baccalaureate Organization. This visit constitutes a pivotal stage in the school’s candidacy phase for the approval and operation of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) beginning in the 2026–2027 school year.

The purpose of the meeting was the on-site evaluation of the school’s readiness and the provision of specialized guidance to the Administration and the IB coordination team. The Consultant examined the compatibility of the school’s infrastructure, available resources, and overall vision with the rigorous international standards set by the IB Organization.

During his stay at the Thessaloniki Music School, the Consultant held a series of targeted meetings with the Administration and the IB Coordinator. Discussions focused on strategic planning, timetable organization, and financial resource management. He also met with the group of teachers who will be teaching in the school’s IB classes. The progress of staff training was reviewed, along with the pedagogical challenges of the programme’s core components (Theory of Knowledge, CAS, Extended Essay).

The report that the Consultant will draft following the November 6 visit will serve as a roadmap for the final adjustments required prior to the official Authorization Visit, which is scheduled for spring 2026.

Based on the Consultant’s guidance, the planning for the current year is structured as follows:

February 2026: Organization of a special informational seminar for first-year Lyceum students, including a detailed presentation of the six subject groups that the school will offer.

March 2026: Submission of the initial declaration of interest by parents. In case applications exceed the available positions, priority order and academic criteria will be applied.

May 2026: Final Authorization Visit by the IB Organization for the official approval of the programme’s operation.

The Consultant emphasized the importance of language proficiency. We strongly encourage students aiming to enroll in the IB DP to focus on strengthening their English language skills (terminology, academic writing), as English will be their primary academic tool starting next September.

The Administration and the IB Coordinator of the Thessaloniki Music School remain at your disposal for further clarification by appointment.
