Traditional Ensembles of the Music School of Thessaloniki Filled the Foyer of the Faculty of Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with Christmas Melodies

9 December 2025

On Monday, 8 December 2025, students of the compulsory individual instrument “Tambouras” and the Traditional Choir of the Music School of Thessaloniki paid an educational visit to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, participating in Christmas celebrations and performing traditional carols from all over Greece.

The focal point of the event was the Faculty of Theology, in whose foyer the students performed carols and traditional praises. The students were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Development, Mr. Nikolaos Maggiores, who invited them to choose Aristotle University for their higher studies and praised their excellent musical performance, noting that it was the first time such an intense and pleasant experience had been held at the Faculty.

The Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Fr. Athanasios Gkikas, thanked the students for their participation in the Christmas celebrations, offering them commemorative gifts and treats. Members of the academic community, students of the humanities faculties, and administrative staff attended the event and warmly applauded the students of the Music School’s ensembles.

A particularly special moment of the visit was the meeting with Erasmus students, who enjoyed the concert and admired the sounds of Greek traditional music—an experience they will carry back to their home countries.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the Faculty of Theology Library, where, with the assistance of librarian Ms. Magdalini Grigoraskou, students were introduced to the world of books, informed about academic research through the AUTh digital repository, visited the rare books section, encountered old music editions, and experienced research practices firsthand.

The educational visit concluded with a brief presentation on the history of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, which this year celebrates 100 years of operation. This visit forms part of the outreach policy of the Music School of Thessaloniki and its commitment to maintaining open communication with the local community, external institutions, and higher education.
