Timeline and Admission Requirements for the International Baccalaureate (IB DP): A Guide for First-Year Lyceum Students of the Thessaloniki Music School

12 December 2025

As the certification process of the Thessaloniki Music School moves forward at full pace, students currently attending the first year of Lyceum (school year 2025–2026) who wish to follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme starting next September are invited to follow the steps outlined below:

Exploration Phase

Information and Self-Assessment (February – March 2026)
This is the time for an honest family discussion regarding future academic goals and aspirations.

Language Readiness
Please note that an excellent command of the English language is essential, as it is the primary language of instruction, research, and assessment.

Goal Setting
Consider whether the academic profile of the IB (critical thinking, research orientation) aligns with the student’s personality, interests, and long-term plans.

Expression of Interest Phase

Declaration of Intent to Enroll (March 2026)
Upon completion of the first semester, parents and/or guardians will be invited to submit an initial declaration of interest.
This declaration is crucial for the strategic planning of class sections and for the timely allocation of specialized teaching staff by the Ministry of Education.

Evaluation Phase

Meeting with Advisors (Spring 2026)
Our school will welcome expert advisors from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Informational sessions (info sessions) will be organized, offering students and parents/guardians the opportunity to ask questions directly to specialists and gain a clear understanding of the programme structure and examination procedures.

Implementation Phase

Final Subject Selection (May – June 2026)
Following the official certification approval of the Thessaloniki Music School (expected by May), students will proceed with finalizing their academic programme.

Personalization
Students will select six subjects and determine the level of difficulty for each (Higher Level or Standard Level).

Important Reminder

The IB journey is exciting but demanding, requiring consistency, discipline, and strong organizational skills.

At the Thessaloniki Music School, the challenge is both double and unique: students will develop their academic profile at an international level while simultaneously continuing to cultivate their musical talent and fulfill their commitments to the artistic identity of our school.
