The Successful Operation of the School Mediation Office at the Music School of Thessaloniki Continues in the 2025–2026 School Year

8 December 2025

With great pleasure, we inform parents/guardians and students that during the 2025–2026 school year, the School Mediation Program continues to operate at the Music School of Thessaloniki. According to Ministry of Education circulars, school mediation is established as a conflict resolution process and is included as a best practice in the organization of school life for addressing problematic behavior.

The School Mediation Office has resumed its operation this year as well. Students may turn to it at any time, and mediation sessions will take place every Wednesday from 12:45 to 13:05 in Room A9.

The program aims to promote peaceful and constructive resolution of disputes among students. Mediation is a dynamic and interactive process in which trained mediators—members of the school community—assist two other members of the school community who are in conflict, helping them reach an agreement through neutrality and specialized skills.

School mediation stands in contrast to traditional systems of assigning blame and imposing disciplinary measures, as it presupposes decision-making and agreement by the students themselves, within a climate of acceptance, trust, and understanding.

School mediation has multiple positive outcomes: it improves students’ communication skills, enhances their ability to manage behavior during conflicts, and helps them find constructive solutions to problems. It also fosters respect for diversity, improves the overall school climate, reduces incidents of violent behavior, strengthens students’ self-esteem, promotes cooperation within the school community, and reinforces a sense of belonging. Furthermore, it develops strategies for peaceful conflict resolution that will prove valuable in students’ future lives as members of society.

For this reason, student mediators were trained during the previous two school years (2023–2024 and 2024–2025) in the principles of mediation: independence, neutrality, impartiality, discretion, confidentiality, equality of parties, and voluntary participation.

We sincerely thank you for your cooperation.
