Students of the Music School of Thessaloniki Filled the Pediatric Wards of G.N. Gennimatas and Agios Dimitrios with Christmas Melodies

22 December 2025

On Monday, 22 December 2025, students of class B2 of the Lower Secondary School (Gymnasium) of the Music School of Thessaloniki visited the pediatric and pediatric surgery wards of the General Hospitals Gennimatas and Agios Dimitrios, where they sang Christmas carols and festive melodies for the hospitalized children.

This initiative originated with the students of class B2 and was communicated to the class teacher, Ms. Chasioti, within the framework of the Religious Education course (Unit 2, subsection iv “The tradition of the first community as a contemporary concern of the Church,” in combination with the 7th suggested activity in the textbook, p. 18) and the Greek Traditional Music course. The initiative was implemented with the approval of the School Administration and the Teachers’ Association of the Music School of Thessaloniki.

Arriving at the pediatric wards with their musical instruments, the students “flooded” the hospital corridors with joyful Christmas notes, conveying the festive spirit to the young patients, their parents, and the medical and nursing staff, filling everyone present with hope and optimism where they were most needed. Through the melodies of their instruments and their voices, the students created a warm, festive atmosphere during a musical visit imbued with solidarity, empathy, and togetherness, embracing young and old alike, evoking emotion, and offering genuine human warmth.

This brief yet precious pause of joy proved to be a unique experience for everyone involved and a valuable life lesson for our students. Such beautiful initiatives strengthen the festive spirit and the human dimension of the holidays.
